Motor-Side Filters

Triamec's motor-side filters are designed to suppress common-mode voltages, protecting motor bearings and tools from electrical arcing and electrochemical erosion. Furthermore, the suppression of common-mode fluctuations reduces electromagnetic interference (especially when using voice-coil or open motors), which is key to achieving highest EMC standards. The filters are connected between a high-speed servo drive and a motor.
Filter variants are available as single-axis (TFS) or dual-axis (TFD) products. Pure common-mode filters (C-series) can be used with all motor types, while filters with combined sinus and common-mode filter stages (T-series) are optimized for low-inductance motors, such as spindles.
Typical Applications
- High-frequency tool spindles
- Protection of bearings and tools from electrical arcing and electrochemical erosion
- EMC-sensitive applications (especially when using voice-coil or open motors)
Common-Mode Voltage Filtering
Common-mode voltage oscillations are a direct consequence of the PWM switching cycle. The simulated common-mode voltage of a 3-level PWM with and without filter is shown below.
Filter Nomenclature
Triamec filters follow a standardized naming convention. An example is provided below.
TF | S | C | 700 | 40 | 50 |
Triamec |
S: Single-Axis |
C: Common-Mode |
Nominal Voltage VDC | Nominal Current Arms | Minimum PWM Frequency (kHz) |
C-Series: Common-Mode Filters
The TFS-C (single-axis) and TFD-C (dual-axis) series consist of motor-side filters that provide common-mode filtering with minimized impact on the differential-mode. These filters can be used with all motor types.
Filters of this series are designed for operation at PWM frequencies between 50 and 100 kHz, and can be combined with Triamec's high-speed servo drives.

Low-Frequency Common-Mode Filters
The C-type common-mode filter model TFS-C-560-60-12 is designed for a low-frequency PWM.
This filter model can be combined with servo drives from other manufacturers.
Number of Axes | Maximum DC Bus Voltage | Continuous Current | Minimum PWM Frequency | Dimensions W×H×D (mm) | |
TFS-C-560-60-12 | 1 | 560 + 10% VDC | 60 Arms | 12 kHz | 149×310×419 |
Subject to technical changes.
T-Series: Combined Sinus and Common-Mode Filters
The filters of the T-series combine two filter stages in one product: a sinus and a common-mode filter stage. Compared to the C-series, filters of the T-series do not require additional cooling. These filters are designed for low-inductance motors, such as spindles. Combining these filters with high-inductance motors can lead to resonances in the current control loop.
The T-series filters are designed for operation at PWM frequencies between 50 and 100 kHz, and can be combined with Triamec's high-speed servo drives.
